I speak Ojibwe,a nd I write it too. But there aren’t many younger people who do now. It is very important that we not forget about our languages in this movement. If it’s just about the earth and the water, the cause will be lost because we won’t change things for the people in the long run. Do not give up on your language. You young people, you probably won’t speak your langauge well. But the really little children can. It’s not too late. Act so that Aboriginal people don’t lose their languages and their cultures. Infants can be taught in daycares. If they are taught properly, they will know the language well when they go to school. Then the teachers can teach them in their language. (They will also know their cultures well.)

Bill Tredway is an Anishinaabe language community member who is concerned about our languages in the Idle No More Movement – Please share this message that he shared with me on social media, with our people. We must not forget about our languages.  I am planning on learning Cree in 2013….who is with me?!
